Encounter teenage seating and youth shelters, provides the missing link between the child that needs conventional play equipment to young teenagers who do not wish to be seen ‘playing’ but still need a facility where they can socialise with their contemporaries.
Whether their social environment is inner city, suburbs or rural, teenagers need somewhere to consider their own space. When we, the provider, fail to produce this space the teenage will invariably generate their own, usually utilising areas considered unacceptable to the on-looking adult, such as street corners, shop doorways, play areas etc. This lack of provision can lead to unwarranted abuse on property of others, which in turn alienates the generations.
Every visual and ergonomic element of the design has been created using consultation with youths between 11 and 17 years old
The technical design of these youth shelters, in terms of its engineering and composition of materials meets the requirements of BS EN1176. Although not strictly play equipment we believe this rigorous standard should still apply, particularly in terms of strength testing, knowing from our experience in the industry that this group will climb, crawl, hang and use the structure in ways for which it was not necessarily intended.
