Playground cleaning – Playdale now offer a playground anti-viral coating service

As well as our innovative PlayClean product, we can now offer a playground cleaning anti-viral coating service to help keep your playgrounds as safe as possible, in line with the most recent government guidance on playground cleaning, updated August 2020.

Our new PlaySafe Coating Service uses a revolutionary water based antimicrobial coating which has been tested to be effective against a wide range of viruses and bacteria. Full training and certification is provided, read below to find out more.

How does it work?

The formula used is a next generation water-based, long-term antimicrobial coating, designed to inhibit the growth of microorganisms for up to 60 days after application. Once the coating has dried, it forms an invisible layer of “nanospikes” that penetrates the cell membrane and destroys them. Due to these “nanospikes”, the process of elimination is mechanical and not chemical. This is extremely effective in both high and low traffic areas alike. The active ingredient in the coating is ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) registered to reduce a broad spectrum of microbes. The coating can be applied to and bonds with almost any surface.

There are several coating systems available, why use ours for playground cleaning?

Some coatings work by leaching out Silver Ions which slowly poison the microbe (virus, bacteria, etc.) and attach to the cellDNA of the pathogen limiting its ability to replicate. Although this has been proven to be effective, it could take over two hours to kill 99%, meaning there is still a high chance of contact spreading in that time (especially in a busy playground). It also has the risk of creating virus mutations which over time could build a resistance to Silver Ions (a “Superbug”). – so our solution removes the chances of superbugs compared to the leaching of silver ions technique.

In comparison our coating mechanically kills the virus / bacteria on contact making sure microbes don’t have a chance to build resistance or be transferred via contact.

How is it applied?

The formula can be applied by your own in-house playground cleaning or general cleaning / maintenance team. If you choose to have your own team install the coating, our partner will liaise with you and provide detailed instructions on how to make up the formula and apply it safely to your playground/s. Don’t worry though, no specialist equipment is required as it’s easily applied using a pressurised spray bottle. For an additional cost this coating can be applied by our partners certified installers, contact us for more information.

How much does it cost?

The formula is supplied in a 5 litre container and will need to be diluted. Once diluted it will cover 1000sqm. In the example playground shown below there would be enough formula for the equipment to be coated bi-monthly for a full year. We are happy to assist you in estimating how much formula you will need for your playground cleaning. Prices start from £450* for 1000sqm coverage, this includes shipping costs. The current lead time for delivering the formula to you is around 5 days.

How do I know if it’s worked?

We work alongside one of the only providers that has a validation chemical that can visibly show if the surfaces still have an active biocide after 60 days and offer recoating for free** if it’s not active (**T&C’s apply)

For more information on our PlaySafe Coating Solution or our PlayClean hand sanitiser stations contact us on 015395 31561 or email info@www.playdale.co.uk

*Price does not include VAT

**Our partner guarantees the coating will last for at least 60 days on all surfaces of a standard playground as long as it has either been installed by an approved installer or by a competent person who has completed their short training programme. Our partner will provide a testing chemical which demonstrates (via a colour change) if the coating is active or not. To claim under our guarantee you must provide dated photographic evidence of the coating being applied and successfully tested and then another photo of an unsuccessful test within the same area. It’s important to note that the testing chemical can stain and should not be applied to any areas which this could cause an issue. In the unlikely event that the coating is proved to not be active after 60 days, our partner will provide replacement coating free of charge.
