Get Ready for Playday 2014Thursday, 8th May 2014 12:02 am
Each year Playday takes place on the first Wednesday of August, so that means this year it will be on the 6th of August!
The Playday campaign was created by Play England, Play Scotland, Play Wales and Playboard Northern Ireland with the aim of highlighting both a child’s right to play and the importance of play in a child’s life. The first Playday happened way back in 1986, so 2014 will mark its 28th year! Traditionally on this day, many community areas and parks across the UK hold special events to encourage families and the community to gather together. The importance of play is obviously something Playdale feels strongly about as we know playtime has a vital role in all areas of children’s development whether that be in improving their social skills, physical skills, mental skills and all round happiness and wellbeing. Particularly with government cuts in funding for play services across the nation, it is more important than ever to raise awareness of this and take action to ensure children are getting their right to play.
As manufacturers of playground equipment for community areas we also strongly encourage any event which brings together a community. Playday celebrations often include jubilee style street parties, gatherings in parks and playgrounds or big events at a community venue.
Anybody can host a Playday event, no matter how big or how small. Check guides to your local area to see which events are taking place near you, then get playing and don’t forget to spread the word!
