Picnic and Play This Summer: North West

Summer is here and so are the school holidays! Children once again crave entertainment during the long summer break. Finding a fantastic park with a thrilling playground suitable for all ages and ample space to unwind with a picnic is all you need, and we’re here to help you find some!

Welcome back to Playdale’s Picnic & Play ‘where to’ series of regular news articles about parks with play areas in the Playdale regions across the UK, which are particularly popular for families during the holiday periods.

This week we’re in the North West for a combination of coast and country. The Area Manager for North West, has suggested three family-friendly parks and playgrounds for you to try. There are of course many more Playdale playgrounds across the whole of this part of the country, so you won’t struggle! Find a playground near you.

Fairhaven Lake

Fairhaven Lake Inner Promenade, Lytham St Annes, Fylde Coast, Lancashire, FY8 1BD

The popular seaside town of Lytham St Annes features not one but two Playdale playgrounds! The Pirate Cove play area, which was opened in Spring 2016, is a fantastic themed playground situated next to the Lake and café.

It features one of our eye-catching Play Galleon Plus units from our Little Hamlets Plus range, a sandpit with treasure chest, a WigwamSwings, a Wobble Board, a Clatter Bridge, a Spring Whale, a Crawl Tunnel and Sea-horse Seesaw along with Log Walks, a Zig Zag Stepper, a second Play Ship, an Inclusive Orbit roundabout and Play Panels.

The newer adventure playground, designed for junior play, opened in Summer 2020. It features a jungle-themed Twist Plus junior multi-play unit from our Jukebox Plus range, an inclusive Team Swing and Gravity BowlCongo Jungle Climber, 25m Aerial RunwayRota Bounce and a large selection of products from our popular Timber Adventure Trail range.

Situated in the middle of the play area is a seating and shelter space. This space not only provides opportunities for relaxation but also picnics in view of the play area.

Speke Hall

The Walk, Speke, Liverpool, L24 1XD

A green oasis located on the fringes of Liverpool, adorned with a rare Tudor house as its centrepiece. There’s always something new to discover including the fantastic house, gardens and estate that reach as far as the eyes can see!

Complete with two play areas and an impressive 30-meter-long zip line, the site offers an array of play opportunities, picnic tables, benches, and inviting spaces for leisurely picnics and play. A visit to this extraordinary National Trust site guarantees a fantastic experience filled with exploration and enjoyment.

Smithills Open Farm

Smithills Dean Rd, Bolton, BL1 7NS

Smithills Open Farm provides a wonderful family outing on a real working farm. In addition to typical farm animals, you’ll see more exotic animals such as llamas, emus, meerkats, wallabies, raccoons and even snakes.

The playground now has a customised Mountain Tower Plus, a Giddy Green Plus from our Little Hamlets Plus range, a Play Tractor, and TrailerWiggles from our toddler Caterpillar range, and not one, but seven slides. A fantastic range of equipment for children from 9 months to 14 years!
