In this edition of Playdale’s Picnic & Play series, we’re back in Cumbria in the glorious North West, showcasing two very different playgrounds in the area.
While the summer weather has been hard to find of late, the clouds are clearing and there is plenty of the summer holiday left to go at. If you live in the area or are just visiting, Cumbria has loads for the family with its fantastic National Park and beautiful coastline. Let us show you two great places to relax with a picnic, and let your whole family let off some steam on an off day.
Sited in a former brickworks, Hammond’s Pond is now a fantastic public park, with walks, playing fields, a miniature railway, and of course a fantastic play area. On the Southern edge of the county town of Carlisle, there is plenty to do on your visit.
The new playground at Hammond’s pond is a focal point for your kids, featuring equipment for all ages and abilities, including our best selling Inclusive Orbit and the Melbourne Plus multi-play unit. The park is easily accessible from the centre of Carlisle by car, and even has a cafe to help while away some quality time, while the younger members of your family burn off some energy!

We are delighted to provide this exciting new play area in Millom, a historic coastal town in South-Western Cumbria. Newly opened, the playground has some incredible features that really set it apart.
The park features a vibrantly colourful poured surface, which looks stunning against the landscape, and the whole playground is themed according to the heritage of the town. With nods to the town’s mining and seafaring heritage, the playground provides a great place for kids to stretch their bodies and their imaginations.
The installation features a huge selection of fun and challenging equipment. A Play Galleon Plus sits as a centrepiece for the toddler playground, with a nod to the town’s maritime tradition, and the whole site features lots of design inclusive elements providing access for all abilities.
If you’re heading to the gorgeous and lesser-discovered West Cumbrian coast, this is the perfect stop-off to keep your whole family entertained, and to relax on the long drive out there.
