Playdale Playgrounds’ 2017 Festive Football TournamentThursday, 21st December 2017 2:30 pm
Following the success & enjoyment of last two years’ Playdale Festive Football Tournaments, we decided to carry on the tradition this year!
Playdale staff from across the business, including our Area Managers from across the UK, joined in the fun tournament at the end of last week. The emphasis was on fun but there was, of course, a bit of healthy competition thrown in for good measure too!
Despite it being a wet day, luck was on their side as the rain held off for the duration of the tournament (apart from the final game). The structure of the competition changed a little this year; with five teams taking part… the decision was made to do a mini-league with the top two teams going into a final. The participating teams were:
Real Zaragusset (Haverthwaite Production)
De-Signings Of The Season (our Design Department)
The lively matches began in earnest and within seconds the competitive natures were out in force. In the first two games, Real Zaragusset hammered last year’s winners 8-1 (The Area Sales Managers team – renamed this year as the Sultans Of Sales) and Ulverston beat Arse-nil. Ulverston were taking part in their first Playdale football tournament and fielded a strong team. Finalists from the last 2 years – The Unbelievable Techers – were nowhere to be seen!
Real Zaragusset then stayed on to beat De-signings Of The Season 3-1, which would have been a lot more if it wasn’t for Playground Designer Karis in their net! And Arse-nil beat the Sultans Of Sales.
De-signings Of The Season and Arse-nil drew 3-3 with a controversial final whistle being blown just as Arse-nil took a shot which then went in… Referee Mick ruled the goal did not stand!
The Sultans Of Sales lost their third game in a row to Ulverston. Ulverston beat De-signings Of The Season 7-2 and Real Zaragusset continued their winning streak beating Arse-nil 3-0 in the next round.
The final round of league matches saw De-signings Of The Season pick up their first win against the Sultans of Sales 6-1, including a very cheeky backheel from Matt Harby with his first touch leaving last year’s winners bottom of the league without a point.
When Real Zaragusset beat Ulverston 3-2, Ulverston were riled up from their only loss of the tournament and wanted revenge! They were promptly awarded with the opportunity for this as these teams finished as the top two and would contest in the grand final!
The final saw Real Zaragusset beat Ulverston in a very close encounter; Ulverston took an early 2-0 lead thanks to some poor defending from Real Zaragusset but they fought back to win 5-4 with Stephen Cowley scoring the winner with a glancing header!
It was then off to the pub for everyone to enjoy some well-earned refreshments together!
