Persistence Pays Off for Rearsby Playground

Persistence was key for a parish council in Rearsby as their determination was finally rewarded with funding for a new play area, delighting everyone in the community.

Rearsby Jubilee Play Park, Leicestershire, now have an exciting new play area thanks to the hard work of their local play park committee, in particular Janette Jones who is the Chair of the Parish Council and lead person for the play park committee.

Following months of hard work, Janette and the committee were successful in securing funding from Veolia, Biffa and Wren, as well as contribution from the local authority.

The playground features a fantastic mix of play equipment for children of all ages up to 12 years, including: a Little Hamlet climbing frame and Log Train for toddlers, an impressive Jukebox Selection climbing frame for older children, a stainless steel Aero Tilt, Swings and a challenging Adventure Trail.

The timber equipment complements the natural surroundings of the play area and has created a real focal point that Rearsby families can be proud of.

Janette was very keen to offer some valuable advice for other groups who are having a tough time trying to secure funding for their own play equipment, saying:

“Persist. Not all funders will wish to fund your project. Just keep trying. Be patient. Funders will keep coming back with questions; sometimes with minor points that you may feel are covered in the initial application. It is so easy to feel like you want to give up.

“Persistence and patience are the key words!”
