Government Sports and PE Funding 2021


Schools play a vital role in keeping young people active and the pandemic has had a huge impact of their ability to keep facilities open.

The Education Company, in partnership with the Association of Play Industries have put together an up-to-date and comprehensive list of all the main Government funding and grants available specifically for school sports and PE and here they are!

National Funding

PE and Sport Premium

Awards for All Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales

  • Grant size between £300 and £10,000
  • Applications can be made at anytime

Premier League and the FA Facilities Fund

  • Grant size between £10,000 and £50,000
  • Available for Football clubs, councils and local sports associations
  • Applications can be made at anytime

Premier League and the FA Facilities Small Grants Scheme

  • Grant size between £1,000 and £10,000

Sports England Small Grants

  • Grant size between £300 and £10,000
  • Available for not-for-profit organisations to get people active
  • Applications can be made at anytime

Sports England Community Asset Fund

  • Available for not-for-profit organisations
  • Grant size between £1,000 and £150,000 (up to 50% of total project cost for educational establishments)
  • Applications can be made at anytime

London Marathon Charitable Trust

  • Grants between £5,000 and £150,000
  • Supports projects to get adults and children active
  • Applications can be made at anytime

BlueSpark Foundation

  • Many grants under £2,000 although some £5,000+
  • Schools, not-for-profit organisations and community groups

Regional Funding

Community Action Northumberland

  • Grants between £250 and £2,500
  • Benefiting the community within the parishes of Brinkburn & Hesleyhurt, Longhorsley, Nethwitton, Nunnykirk and Rothley & Hollinghill
