Playdale have recently installed the first Agoratop concept in the UK, a project which will see the young people of Stratford enjoying open air sports in all weather conditions.
The covering for the Agoraspace concept is an impressive structure which provides a roof over the multi-use games area which not only protects the user from bad weather conditions but also provides shade from high temperatures. The London Borough of Newham also requested that children could use the facility after dark so a timed lighting system that can be controlled by the authority was also installed.
The London Borough of Newham was attracted to the Agoratop due to its dual purpose and striking features. The authority wanted something impressive to go on the edge of the Olympic Village and will be holding pre-Olympic events at the facility. To celebrate this, the borough wanted the Newham Olympic flame design printed on the covering which looks particularly impressive. The Agoratop really improves the look of the park and will hopefully encourage the local children to get fit and active and produce some athletes for the future!
Regional Sales Manager for Playdale, Jill Watson commented, “Playdale are very excited about being involved with the first Agoratop to be installed in the UK and also to have it so close to the Olympic Village. We trust that the children of Newham will have many hours of enjoyment using it.”
Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales, said: “Winning host borough status for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games inspired many residents to get fit, participate and enjoy sport regardless of ability. The Stratford multi-use games area is a key facility in the borough because it enables residents to enjoy a variety of sports in all weathers year round.”
The official opening for the facility took place at the end of September with special guests Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales and Lead Officer for the Newham Sports Academy Tessa Sanderson.
