Playdale Playgrounds was absolutely thrilled to win the tender to design, build and install the new Adventure Playground at Fairhaven Lake on the Fylde Coast.
The new play area installation is part of a wider Fairhaven National Lottery Heritage Fund Redevelopment project. It was match funded from a successful Lancashire Environmental Fund submitted by the Friends of Fairhaven Lake.
Created in the 1890’s and covering 19.5 Hectares, Fairhaven Lake is seen as a ‘Regional Gem’ in terms of recreation and environmental issues. The site holds Green Flag status which recognises well managed parks and green spaces internationally. Amongst the many recreational facilities Fairhaven Lake provides boat hire, flat green bowling, tennis courts, a basketball court, and skate park.
The brief was to develop an imaginative, attractive junior play area which also needed to be in keeping with Fairhaven Lake’s sense of place and heritage value. Sustainability and inclusivity were essential elements for our Design Team to consider when designing the new play area.
The site was already home to a Playdale playground which opened in Spring 2016. The themed Pirate Cove play area features many nautical pieces of equipment including one of our eye catching Play Galleon Plus units from our Little Hamlets Plus range, a sandpit with treasure chest, Sea-horse Seesaw and a second Play Ship.
Almost all the equipment included in the design proposal was manufactured from our natural and sustainably sourced (laminated) timbers with panels and details in blended green hues which could not be more aesthetically sensitive to the brief and to its natural surroundings.
The exciting new equipment includes a jungle themed Twist Plus junior multi-play unit from our Jukebox Plus range, an inclusive Team Swing and Gravity Bowl, Congo Jungle Climber, 25m Aerial Runway, Rota Bounce and a large selection of products from our popular Timber Adventure Trail range.
Situated in the middle of the play area is a seating and shelter space. This space not only provides opportunities for relaxation but also protection from the wind as the play area is very exposed to the elements.
We created a fantastic bespoke entrance sign which includes one of Lytham’s best-known landmarks, the Lytham Windmill.
