Frequently asked questions

How do I source commercial playground equipment?

Don’t worry – you don’t need to think about the sourcing process! When you come to Playdale, we’ll work with you to identify the perfect pieces of equipment to build your playground from the ground up.

Can I apply for a grant to fund commercial playground equipment?

Your grant eligibility depends entirely on your business model. Usually, standard for-profit businesses are not eligible for traditional lottery or community-funded grants – these are typically reserved for schools, charities, councils and nurseries.

However, if your playground will be public-use and deliver a significant community benefit or advance a rural community, you may be eligible for specific funding streams.

Read our full guide to playground funding to find out more.

How frequently does commercial playground equipment need to be inspected?

Routine visual checks of your commercial playground equipment should be carried out daily – each day, surface-level problems like litter or debris can negatively affect child safety and enjoyment of the playground.

However, operational inspections should be carried out quarterly, at a minimum, by a competent person with knowledge of BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177.

You’ll also need an annual inspection by a qualified, independent inspector (typically RPII-accredited or equivalent).

Smithills Open Farm

Smithills Open Farm provides a wonderful family outing on a real working farm. In addition to typical farm animals, you’ll see more exotic animals like llamas, emus, meerkats, wallabies, raccoons and even snakes. The existing (Playdale) playground, was so popular that they didn’t want to demolish it; instead, they wanted to relocate it. The central junior tower unit (shown in green and red below) was installed over 15 years ago and was part of our previous ‘Jukebox’ range. The unit, which was still in excellent condition, was relocated to another area of the farm to continue providing hours of entertainment—proof of our equipment’s longevity and durability.
