A small community in Cornwall pulled together and worked extremely hard to get a fantastic new Playdale play area for their village, proving that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible.
The Sunflower Park in Pensilva was in desperate need of new play equipment, so Clare Lambert and her team of ladies decided to take it upon themselves to do something about it.
Now they can look back at their project with great delight and satisfaction that their efforts have given children in the community an exciting new playground.
The whole community was dedicated and focused on their playground mission, from the planning stages and consultation, right through to the clearance of the site. Husbands and community ‘muscle’ were even brought in to help remove the old equipment.
The play area offers something for everyone. The equipment caters for all age groups from toddlers to juniors and teenagers, including: a Big City and Little City unit, Aero Tilt, Rota Bounce, Play Train, Adventure Trail and Activity Net.
A special finishing touch came from one of the local children called Nyah, aged 11, who designed the sign for the playground, ‘The Sunflower Park’.
The group kick-started the playground project by applying for funding through a number of providers, including: Viridor Credits, SITA Cornwall Trust, Caradon Area Community Fund and the Cornwall Councillor Community Grant Scheme, along with fantastic fundraising efforts in the community.
From the humble beginning through to the watering of the new turf, this park was an overwhelming community effort.
Everyone involved in the project was delighted with the service that they had received from Playdale, in particular the help and guidance that they received from our Area Manager, Darren Moore.
Darren was presented with a touching thank you card with comments including: “Darren….LEGEND!! Thank you for your many hours (or is that days) of input. You won’t be forgotten.”
Darren was delighted to have worked with the community, adding: “Out of all the projects that I have worked on in my time at Playdale, this one in Pensilva was truly the biggest community effort I have seen from start to finish. A real pleasure to work with and I’m delighted that they have got the play area that they deserve.”
