One of the ways to effectively utilise your PE & Sport Premium is to install outdoor play and sports equipment that will encourage pupils to be more physically active. The Government’s guidance to schools on spending the newly increased funding states that ‘Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport they offer.’
They recommend embedding physical activity into the school day by having active playgrounds. Playdale’s ranges of Sportswalls and Adventure Trail are the perfect way to ‘activate’ your playground and will benefit large numbers of children at your school over many years!
The pupils at Yarlside Academy in Barrow-in-Furness already enjoy playing on a variety of Playdale equipment in their infant and junior outdoor areas. This has been installed over the last few years in phases. Phasing is ideal for schools who want to set specific goals and targets for their fundraising activities. The school has an active PTA which works hard to raise funds to support the school.

It’s a well-known fact that as well as being fun, physical activity is not a break from learning, it’s an investment in improving academic performance.
Yarlside Academy wanted to maximise their junior playground space by providing an exciting, inviting physical area for their pupils. The newly increased PE & Sport Premium which was first introduced for this 2017-18 academic gave them the ideal opportunity to invest in two permanent, sustainable Sportswalls with Goals, Nets and Hoops to create a multi-use games area on the existing tarmac and line markings at one end of the playground.
As you can see the end result is fantastic! Sportswalls create a challenging and appealing sports area for children to enjoy healthy, active exercise and play their favourite games.
Janine Pierce, Headteacher told us, “Once again I’m very happy with the service that Playdale have provided from start to finish. The equipment is made to a high standard and is excellent quality. Highly recommended!”

Janine went on to say, “It’s vital that children’s heart rates are being raised on a daily basis, in addition to the PE lessons that are part of the curriculum. Our pupils in years 3-6 are loving their timetabled sessions on our new multi-sports area during breaks and lunchtimes. They couldn’t be more active!”

Alongside these obvious benefits, the school is also enjoying much success in local netball, basketball and football competitions. There’s no stopping them!
