Wootton is a village and civil parish on the River Glyme about two miles north of Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Wootton Parish Council is delighted with their new playground at the Wootton Memorial Field that will provide an exciting place for the community’s children and adults to enjoy for many years to come.
A fun-filled opening day event was enjoyed by all with the Duke of Marlborough officially declaring the playground open…not only by cutting the red ribbon but by having a go on the equipment too!
Memorial Field Vice Chair Graham Lawrence worked tirelessly on the project over the course of one and a half years and spent many hours applying for funding, awards and grants from a variety of organisations and bodies. Following the installation and the opening of the play area Graham told us “It’s great to have completed this project and see the kids’ excitement. The play equipment is fantastic – it’s fun, challenging and looks like it will definitely stand the test of time.”
Funds to make the project possible were provided by a variety of sources including Viridor Credits, West Oxfordshire District Council, the local Blenheim Palace Estate, the Big Lottery Fund and contributions from Cottsway Housing Association.
There is a variety of play equipment at the site for all ages and abilities including a Tottlebank Plus from our Little Hamlets Plus range of multi-play tower units, a Twist Plus from our Jukebox Plus range of junior multi-play tower units, a Playhouse 2 (with table), Monkey Bars, a Combo 10 Adventure Trail, Wavy Bars, a Quad Rider, a Rockin’ Rider, an inclusive Gravity Bowl, an inclusive timber Team Swing along with a Junior Swing and a Cradle Swing, an Ellerside Bench and a timber Slatted Bin. There is something for everyone…and plenty of it!
The blend of green hues and natural timbers on the tower units are aesthetically sensitive to the natural rural surroundings of the village. The equipment is also going to be used on a regular basis by the local primary school who were heavily involved with the planning of and fundraising for the playground. It will also inevitably become a fantastic social hub and focal point for the local community. Parents, grandparents and carers can meet up to socialise whilst their young ones are entertained for hours on the exciting and challenging equipment.
Hard work from Wootton Parish Council & the local community has culminated in a fantastic new community play area that they can be proud of and that children will enjoy for many years to come.
