Celebrating World Book Day with storytelling in the woods!

The children at Leven Valley CE Primary School in Backbarrow, down the road from Playdale HQ, were lucky enough to celebrate the recent world book day with stories, tales and riddles from Taffy Thomas MBE, celebrated storyteller!

Taffy, the 1st Laureate for Storytelling, tours nationally and internationally, but as his base is Grasmere in the Lake District he could think of no better way of spending World Book Day than to enthral and entertain children in his home county of Cumbria.

Headteacher of Leven Valley School, Ian Nichol, kindly invited us along to the event as Taffy also had the honour of being the first person to tell stories and tales from their brand new Playdale Storytelling Chair that has recently been installed in the school’s fantastic and magical ‘Wild Wood.’ Children, staff, governors and parents gathered round in the atmospheric setting and were quickly drawn in by Taffy’s riveting tales and brain-teasing riddles.

Taffy is the patron of The Society For Storytelling. He received The English Folk Dance and Song Society Gold Badge award in December 2010. His head is bursting with stories, riddles and folklore. He is now the most experienced English storyteller, having performed in many countries on four continents.

The school are hoping that the Storytelling Chair and Taffy’s visit will inspire and encourage children to create, tell and read more stories of their own in the future.

If you would like to find out more about the Playdale Storytelling Chairs, or any other playground product please contact us – we look forward to hearing from you!
