A mega month of charity challenges

We definitely couldn’t let the occasion pass without a round-up of exploits from some recent charity  events that Playdale staff members took part in as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility.

During May we had teams of staff that took part in both the Keswick to Barrow (K2B) & Coniston to Barrow (C2B) charity walks as well as a team that took part in the Keswick Mountain Festival’s 3 Peaks Challenge.

The K2B is 40 miles, the C2B is 21 miles long and the 3 Peaks Challenge is an 18-mile hike around the 3 peaks which surround Keswick – Catbells, Walla Crag and Latrigg – with a total ascent of just over 1,000m (& the challenge was to return within 8 hours). We think you’ll agree that none of these are for the faint hearted so all our team members put in plenty of training beforehand!

All events were lucky with the weather conditions on the day, but particularly for the K2B and C2B-ers  who had glorious sunshine the whole day through. The 3 Peak Challengers had less sunshine but were relieved that it was a better day than forecast!

We even had Playdale staff’s children joining in the challenges with girls aged 13 & 14 walking the 21 miles from Coniston to Barrow in fantastic time! Well done girls!

A special shout out needs to go to Matt McGinley our CNC Team Leader who incredibly ran most of the route from Keswick to Barrow in just  7 hours 17 minutes! Go Matt, fantastic achievement!

The mountaineers kept going with great team spirit and camaraderie (and plenty of snacks!) up and down the three peaks.  The breathtaking views motivated them and helped keep up the pace!

They all rose to the challenge and came through the finishing line under the 8 hours. Well done all!

Every single one of our team members smashed it and their incredible achievements have raised hundreds of pounds for ALL of our three chosen charities for 2019, St Mary’s Hospice, Furness Young Carers and Ulverston Mind. What great determination and spirit. These were no mean feats!

Huge congratulations and hats off to you all!
