Client: Postwick and Witton Parish Council
Location: Postwick, Norfolk
Working in partnership with Postwick and Witton Parish Council, Playdale transformed the playground at Postwick Village Hall into a welcoming community space where children can play, explore and grow together.
The existing village playground had become tired, with rotting timber leaving the space in need of a complete transformation. After consulting with the local community, the project was put out to tender, with a clear vision for a playground that would bring new life to the area.
Surrounded by open fields and located alongside the village hall, the playground needed to complement its natural surroundings, while offering plenty of play value for children of different ages and interests.
With a budget of around £80,000, it was essential to consider long-term safety and durability when developing the playground design.
To ensure the finished playground sat naturally within the rural Norfolk landscape, the Council requested timber playground equipment in their project brief. In addition, Playdale also had to consider that the play area would be used not only by local families, but by the nearby nursery too. It was important to create a space that brought these different groups together.
Throughout the tender process, Playdale provided professional support and expert advice. Working collaboratively with the Parish Council to turn its vision into a playground designed for the whole community.
After a year-long collaborative design process, the final playground brought together timber playground equipment suited to a wide range of ages and interests.
Playdale installed timber throughout the playground to help the equipment blend naturally into the surrounding landscape while creating a warm, inviting space for children to explore.
As the plans evolved, Playdale’s designers focused on creating a varied play experience that would give children more ways to move, imagine and play together. The equipment was carefully positioned to create a natural flow through the space, allowing children to choose their own adventures and discover new challenges at their own pace.
The 3-Bay Swing creates a shared space where children can swing side by side and enjoy the playground together. The swing includes an inclusive Team Swing Seat, Junior Swing Seats and Cradle Swing Seats, offering different ways for children to enjoy the experience.
Playdale also installed a roleplay Play Tractor with Trailer and Woodland-Themed Playhouse, giving younger children the freedom to create their own stories, take on different roles and enjoy imaginative play.
For older children, Playdale installed two Woodland Eco Tower units, introducing more opportunities to climb, balance and explore. One unit connects with the Adventure Trail, creating a continuous play journey that encourages children to move between challenges.
Now complete, the outdoor space beside Postwick Village Hall has completely transformed. What was once a tired playground with rotting timber is now a place filled with opportunities to play, learn and explore.
The natural timber design helps the playground blend into its rural setting, while durable materials and Steel Ground Fixings provide the Parish Council with the long-term performance it needs.
Most importantly, the project has created more than just a playground. It has created a space for adventure, imagination and connection, helping outdoor play become part of the community for generations to come.
