Wow Factor Playground for Westholme School

Wow Factor Playground for Westholme

Location:  Blackburn, Lancashire

The Brief

Westholme School is a coeducational independent school in Lancashire that serves students aged 3 to 18. Excitement was already growing at the school as construction on a state-of-the-art new Preparatory School began, allowing all students from throughout the school to be educated on one campus. Playground equipment was also an important aspect of the refurbishment. Playdale was invited to visit the building site and consult on the new equipment.

Our North Regional Area Manager was invited to the schools and discussed a few ranges and equipment kinds that we thought would fit the bill and age range. It was critical that the outdoor equipment located in the Prep School be suitable for children aged 2 to 5. We were able to accomplish this while satisfying all of their needs and ideas.

The Challenge

There were many site challenges to consider, including space constraints, levels, and subterranean services. Playdale collaborated closely with the school and building contractors to ensure that the playground’s design and specifications were exactly as agreed and that the project was completed on schedule.

The playground equipment chosen provides children with a wide range of opportunities for social, physical, and role play. Little Hamlet Tiddleywink Plus, Clustered Stilts from our Timber Adventure Trail series, and Traffic Signs are among the items included. The playground was then covered in wet pour safety surfacing, complete with a highway for imaginative play. The surfacing was installed at various depths to ensure that it provided adequate impact absorbency for the equipment beneath it.

It’s usually a good idea to involve students in the selection of playground equipment for a school project since it adds enthusiasm and a sense of ownership to the equipment. During the construction of their new playground, year two pupils visited Playdale HQ to learn more about the materials and procedures used to manufacture the playground equipment that will be put at their school.

“The children had an amazing experience and were buzzing on our return to school with comments like…that was the best trip ever and I want to work at Playdale when I grow up! The staff are great at answering the children’s questions and making us feel welcome. We can’t wait to see our new play equipment!” Mrs Barrett, Westholme Teacher.

The pupils now have a lively, colourful, and imaginative playground. It provides socialisation, role play and most importantly enjoyment and smiles for all.
