Welcome to Playdale’s Picnic and Play guide for 2026, created to help families find the best parks and playgrounds over the summer holidays! We’ve made sure all these parks are equipped with a fantastic selection of playground equipment and spaces to relax and enjoy a picnic.
This week, we are heading to North and South Yorkshire. Declan Dunne, our Area Sales Manager covering Cumbria, the North East and Yorkshire, has chosen some of his favourite family-friendly playgrounds in the area for you to explore.
There are, of course, many more Playdale playgrounds across Yorkshire and the rest of the UK, so you won’t struggle to find one near you.
Langcliffe, Settle, BD24 9NL (what3words: equal.speeding.lecturing)
Starting off in the quiet village of Langcliffe, this newly installed playground has given local children an exciting new place to play this summer.
Even if you don’t live in Yorkshire, this playground is well worth a visit. Why not turn it into a family day out or a weekend getaway? With a caravan park just outside the village, it’s the perfect destination to combine outdoor adventure with a relaxing break.
Designed for children of all ages, the playground offers plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Little ones can enjoy the Toddler Swings, while older children can soar the highest on the Junior Swings, tackle the Monkey Bars, or explore the Jukebox multi-play unit.
At the heart of the playground is a wooden picnic bench, the perfect spot to enjoy a picnic or simply sit back and watch the children play.
St Nicholas Ave, York YO19 4TA (what3words: happy.casual.sake)
Looking for an excuse to visit York Designer Outlet this summer? Make a stop at its bespoke playground while you’re there.
Designed with accessibility in mind, the playground includes features that make it easier for children and families of different abilities to play together. The Inclusive Orbit Roundabout offers an exciting adrenaline-filled experience, while a range of sensory Play Panels encourages interactive and imaginative play.
The show-stopping Woodland Eco Towers multi-play unit invites young adventurers to climb, explore and discover, providing plenty of opportunities for active outdoor play.
When it’s time to take a break, you’ll find a selection of picnic tables and seating just outside the playground. Whether you’ve packed a homemade picnic or fancy grabbing a bite from one of the many cafés and restaurants at the outlet, it’s the perfect place to refuel before heading back for more play.
Doncaster Rd, Thrybergh, Rotherham S65 4NU (what3words: acquaint.umpires.competent)
Next, we’re heading to Thrybergh Country Park in South Yorkshire. Set alongside a beautiful reservoir, this playground is the perfect destination for families looking to combine outdoor play with nature.
Surrounded by beautiful scenery, children can enjoy a range of timber playground equipment, including a Little Monkeys climber, Bubble Panel and Snake Swing.
For those ready for a bigger challenge, the Swinging Steps provide an exciting balancing adventure, while the Woodland Eco Towers multi-play unit encourages children to climb, explore and let their imaginations run wild.
Once everyone has worked up an appetite, why not stop by the neighbouring café for a bite to eat? Or, if you’ve packed a picnic, take a stroll along the reservoir and find the perfect spot to sit back, relax and enjoy the surroundings before heading back for another adventure on the playground.
Whether you live in Yorkshire, are visiting, or just passing through, these playgrounds are perfect for fun-filled family days out. Pack up a picnic, explore these fantastic play areas, and enjoy an unforgettable day out this summer!
