Earlier this year, Playdale Playgrounds were delighted to be awarded the winning tender contract for two Torbay Council projects in Brixham, Devon; Astley Park and Furzeham Green.
Astley Park needed a brand new, fully rebuilt play area and Furzeham Green required some additional equipment for older children to accompany their existing Playdale Adventure Trail and Aerial Runway.

Astley Park’s existing equipment was minimal, outdated & lacked imagination. Now children can enjoy a fantastic mix of equipment that caters for all ages and abilities, including; Inclusive City 2 Bay Team Swing, Inclusive Orbit, Twist Plus Multi Play Unit from our Jukebox Plus range, Inclusive Gravity Rider, Rockin Rider, Giggleswick Plus Toddler Multi Play Unit from our Little Hamlets Plus range, Inclusive Loud Speakers, various items from our Timber Adventure Trail range and boulders & picnic tables to provide opportunities for socialising.
The council worked closely with the local park committee ‘Astley Park Friends Group’ and their active Chairman Baz Bazeley commented after the opening of the new playground. “We enjoyed a lovely picnic in the park at Astley Park, Brixham last Monday, which doubled as our official opening of the new playground, supported by Torbay Council and supplied & built by Playdale Playgrounds. With over 100 people in attendance the new equipment received some proper testing! Everyone is really pleased with the new kit – a big ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone at Torbay Council, Play Torbay and Playdale Playgrounds Ltd. A great effort..”
The large open green space right next to the play area in Astley Park means that older children can play kick-about and wide games on the grass, whilst their younger siblings play on the new playground. Parents, grandparents and carers can enjoy the community feel & atmosphere at a great new facility which brings people together in a happy and healthy new environment.
The Friends Group are very much looking forward to taking the park forward and hoping the new enthusiasm for the space encourages their membership to grow.

Furzeham Green play area already had existing Playdale equipment in the form of Timber Adventure Trail equipment and a Timber Aerial Runway. They were however in need of equipment for the older children that use the park.
The addition of a Mega Swing gives older children the exhilaration of speed and movement as they swing together to get as high as they can.

In the weeks following the installation and opening James Nicholas, the Natural Environment Officer from Torbay Council wrote, “Playdale were successful as part of a tender process to supply and install playgrounds in Astley Park and Furzeham Green. These parks are both located in Brixham, Devon. The tender was evaluated by Council officers and Community members. Playdale’s design was chosen as it provided a good balance between challenge and design within a competitive price. The scheme was installed without issue and was well received by the Community. Playdale and their contractors worked very well with Council officers and public alike. In recent months the park has had an official opening and is proving very popular and a welcome addition to the town.”
