Exciting new playground at the hub of new development in Cambridge

Client: Countryside Properties UK Ltd

Location: Clay Farm, Trumpington, Cambridge

The Clay Farm development lies to the east of Trumpington village near Cambridge. The overall development of the site has been carried out by Countryside Properties and includes a park with playground, two schools, community centre, shops and over 2,000 new homes.

The challenge for this project was to make use of the new central park and playground area to provide a safe environment for children within the community to play outside their homes. It also had to be exciting and challenging for all ages and abilities.

Our Area Manager Will Desborough worked together on this project with Ben Hunt, Associate Director of the New Homes and Communities department at Countryside Properties. Ben told us “Playdale worked closely with us through all aspects of the design and supply/installation of this play area. This included providing information to assist in dialogue with the local planning authority, and liaison with the design team to ensure the planning and design drawings were fully coordinated.  Works were then completed on-site in a professional manner in line with our programme requirements.  I have been very pleased with the professional service received throughout this project.”

All the play items that went into this design were from our stainless steel ranges as it was essential that the equipment would be durable, hard wearing and require very little maintenance. This should ensure that the play area can be enjoyed by children living on and around this development for many years.

The below walkthrough video by our Area Manager, Will Desborough displays the fantastic mix of play products catering for a wide range of ages that have been installed at Clay Farm.

The central focus of this new play area is the exciting new three-tower Stockholm Plus stainless steel three tower junior unit from our Big City Plus range, which is packed with play features and exciting challenges. Perfect for this new contemporary development.

The Inclusive Orbit offers a design that allows for exciting, inclusive play as children can enjoy spinning round as fast as they can together, no matter what their ability. They will enjoy exhilarating speed & movement, as well as teamwork and social interaction.

The Infant and Junior Swings have cradle seats and flat seats respectively, meaning that all age ranges can enjoy these playground favourites.

The Little City Winnipeg is a stainless steel playground tower for younger children. The challenging climbing net and ladders will put their skills to the test before they experience the thrills of sliding to get back to the bottom.

The stainless steel City Wobble Board is a wobbling walkway that’s designed to push children’s balancing skills as they wobble their way to the end!

The children in the area now have an exciting new play area that provides a range of activities, allowing them to challenge themselves and have fun. The parents in the area are delighted that they have a safe place for their children to play on their doorstep.

Inclusive playground design, done well, is invisible, not because it’s hidden, but because it’s so naturally woven into the design that no child has to think about it. They just play. Together.
