To help kick-start the new year of fundraising for our 2019 chosen-by-staff worthy causes we held a hugely successful charity race and games night at The Wellington Hotel in Dalton-in-Furness on Saturday, in support of St Mary’s Hospice.
St Mary’s Hospice provides care and comfort for patients living with any life-shortening illness or long term condition and their family. They support people from the moment of diagnosis and their families for a long time. They could not exist without the invaluable, ongoing support from the local community.
The main event was the Race Night which brought all the excitement of a day at the races to the Wellington Hotel! Playdale’s Lisa Cairns and Steph D’Leny expertly guided everyone through the racing action.

The fun didn’t end there as there was also a Valentine’s Quiz, Open The Box, Play Your Cards Right and of course a bit of Karaoke for all those with stars in their eyes to have their moment with the mic! Playdale’s Premises Manager Mick O’Doherty and Mike Macaulay, landlord of the Wellington, compèred the evening and hosted the games brilliantly. All we can say is move aside Ant & Dec… what a great double act they were!

…and it didn’t end there, as there was a fabulous raffle to end the evening. There was a huge selection of fantastic prizes up for grabs and we would like to take this opportunity to give big thanks all the generous businesses and individuals who so kindly donated them.

The whole event raised a whopping £1,100!
Clare Tonkin, Fundraising Coordinator at St Mary’s Hospice spoke to us earlier and said,
“Saturday night’s event was a real credit to Playdale. Lisa and Steph had everything organised perfectly, including sourcing some wonderful raffle prizes and managing all of the race administration without fault. Mick, supported by Mike, was the perfect host and compère, making sure everyone had a brilliant time. It was great to see so many Playdale staff supporting the event, I hope everyone is very proud of its success. We are delighted to have Playdale’s support – what a wonderful way to launch a year of fundraising for St Mary’s.”
