Theming inspiration for your playground!

Themed playgrounds can be both fun and exciting for children and adults! From traditional country parks to cutting-edge cityscapes, we recognise that design aesthetics must enhance the environment in which we live. Creating a themed focal point in a playground can spark imaginations and draw people together. Whether it’s exploring a desert island or climbing the crows nest of a pirates ship, theme-driven playgrounds support the physical & social development of children and provide a place to let their imaginations run wild!

Many of our products already include different elements of theming. If you want to create a nautical theme, then your playground could be centred around a pirate ship like Playdale’s Play Galleon Plus. Maybe you are planning on building a playground near a Railway Station and may want to include a Log Train or a Play Train in your playground design. At Playdale we are fortunate to be able to combine the expertise of our playground designers with the creativeness of our graphic designers to produce exciting playgrounds that spark the imagination.  Our Caribbean Cove Adventure Playground at Merlin Entertainments’ Sea Life Centre in Dorset is a fantastic example of how we can bring a theme to life.

Elements of theming

Theming doesn’t always have to big and bold, it’s the smaller touches that also count when designing a play area. You can add extra imaginative and educational opportunities with the installation of themed panels or surfacing. These little pieces of stimulation give parents the opportunity to engage in imaginative play that either reinforces stories or nursery rhymes or gives them the confidence to explain scientific facts relating to nature.

We have developed three brand new themed Jukebox units all based around our Freestyle Plus junior multi-play unit!. Children can trek, swing and explore with our jungle theme, boldly go where a child has been before with our space theme or step back to nature and skip through the whimsical woodlands and grassy meadows of a woodland themed unit.

A great example of what can be achieved is our case study of Poolfoot Farm Sports and Leisure Complex. At the home of Fleetwood Town FC, we installed a bespoke, themed Play Galleon Plus multi-play tower unit including the football teams club colours and logo!
